How to Apply for Your Nevada Marriage License Online

Before you land in Las Vegas, start with the Clark County Clerk’s online pre-application. It is a short form: names, birthdates, current addresses, and a few basic details for each of you.

Once you submit it, you will receive confirmation that the Marriage License Bureau has it on file. Save that confirmation number. Keep the email handy on your phone for the day you arrive at the Bureau in person.

That said, the pre-application is not the license itself. It simply speeds up your in-person visit. Your submitted application stays in the county’s system for one year. There is no rush to book a specific date the moment you apply.

Visiting the Clark County Marriage License Bureau in Person

Both of you need to show up together, in person, at the Marriage License Bureau. It is located at 201 E. Clark Avenue in downtown Las Vegas. The Bureau is open 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, 365 days a year, including every holiday.

We usually recommend picking up your license at least the day before your ceremony. That said, if your ceremony is in the afternoon, a morning trip to the Bureau works fine too.

What to Bring to the Marriage License Bureau

Here is what you need: a valid, government-issued form of identification, such as a driver’s license or passport. That is genuinely it. You will not need a birth certificate, divorce papers, or your Social Security card.

The Bureau issues your license with your name exactly as it is written in the application you previously submitted. Double check the spelling before you leave the counter, since corrections after the fact can involve a fee.

The Best Time to Visit the Marriage License Bureau

It is walk in only, and the whole visit typically takes well under an hour. Some couples are in and out with paperwork in about fifteen minutes. Lines run longer during peak seasons and around holidays. Plan a little extra time if your date falls during a busy stretch.

You will pay $102 for your license. Credit and debit cards are accepted, though card payments carry a small processing fee.

What Happens to Your Nevada Marriage License After the Ceremony

Your packet from the Bureau includes two documents. The first is the official marriage license, which your officiant completes and signs. The second is a decorative keepsake certificate for you to take home.

The keepsake has no legal standing. It is simply something pretty to display.

Bring the entire packet with you to your ceremony. Your officiant takes it from there.

Beyond the vows themselves, your officiant has a job to do. They file the completed license with the Clark County Clerk within ten calendar days of your ceremony. Once the Clerk’s office files it, you are legally, officially married on paper, not just in the moment.

Ordering Your Certified Marriage Certificate

After your officiant files your license, you can order certified copies of your marriage certificate for $20 each. We typically recommend ordering at least three. Certified copies come in handy down the road, especially if you plan to change your name. Agencies often want an original document, not a photocopy.

International Couples and Apostille Requirements for Your Nevada Marriage License

For couples getting married in Las Vegas from outside the United States, this part matters. Some home countries require an Apostille to formally recognize the marriage.

The Clark County Clerk does not handle Apostilles. They come from the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office, and you will need a certified copy of your marriage certificate first.
